every road i travel

How my heart clings to what it yearns for.
How you haunt me at the break of every day.
Your brown eyes tether me no matter
Where I stray, where I stray, where I stray.

Castles may crown the slopes of misty mountains.
Sinuous streets may spill over with cafes.
Church bells may chime out over glassy rivers.
It’s your face I see along the quays.

Of all this planet’s countless wonders.
My heart counts one wonder highest on its list.
The Pyramids are anthills, the Taj Mahal’s an outhouse
Next to the slope of your wrists.

Walking the North Sea’s cloudy muddy beaches.
Standing on Table Mountain looking out over False Bay.
Staring at the sea from a star-shaped fortress.
You come drifting like a ghost across the waves.

3,000 miles may separate our bodies
Still I feel your skin on my skin.
You’re like a constellation watching from the sky
As I wander the earth gently spinning

In tiny cars I may zoom along the highways.
I’m driving in circles no matter what I do.
Winding passes, city streets, Autobahns-
Every road I travel leads to you.
