I met a Christian
At the REI.
I was going fishing.
He was on a mission.
He said, “I’ll pray the Lord
for your salvation.”
I said, “That’s all in your
imagination.”

He just smiled: “I’ll pray for you, brother.”
Then he hummed a phrase of Ave Maria.
I said, “Say, I’ve got another idea.”

“Who knows
Where those prayers go
When you pray for healing,
When you pray for wealth?
Are you talking to a higher being,
Or are you talking to yourself?”

He just smiled: “I’ll pray for you, brother.”
Then he hummed a phrase of Ave Maria.
I said, “Say, I’ve got another idea.”

Hey, let’s go skydiving!
I’ll wear a parachute and you just pray.
Hey, let’s go skydiving
And see which of the two of us’ll walk away.

So we took an airplane
Up to the deep blue.
He took the Lord’s name.
I took my chute.
He whispered, “Dear Lord…”
And felt inspired.
I clutched my rip cord
And perspired.

Hey, let’s go skydiving!
I’ll wear a parachute and you just pray.
Hey, let’s go skydiving
And see which of the two of us’ll walk away.
